Your Questions, Answered

Is it safe to drink the water?

Both cottages have triple filtered water which is perfectly safe to drink and cook with.

Considering the location, will I need to worry about noise?

While the cottages are located in downtown Cruz Bay, we have never received a complaint about noise. Mongoose Junction can be rather lively in the mornings with all the deliveries happening. If you plan to visit during Carnival (July) noise can be an issue.

How hard is it to get a taxi to the beaches and what are the rates?

Open-air taxis can be found throughout Cruz Bay, specifically by the passenger ferry terminal. Rates are based on the location of drop-off. The typical range is from $5 to $15 per person depending on the location of drop-off.

Does the cottage have parking?

Both cottages have private parking provided.

Do I need a passport to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands?

If you are a U.S. citizen a passport is not required, but it still serves as the best identification when traveling. Otherwise, you must be prepared to show evidence of citizenship when departing the islands.

What is the currency in the U.S. Virgin Islands?

As a U.S. territory, the currency is the U.S. dollar. ATMs can be found throughout the islands. The most widely accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard. Unfortunately, most businesses do NOT accept American Express. Cash is always a good option.

What language is spoken in the U.S. Virgin Islands?

English is the official language; however, you can definitely detect the sound of colorful dialects and expressions that may take time to get accustomed to. Spanish is the official second language.

Can I drive in the U.S. Virgin Islands?

We drive on the left side of the road. A valid U.S. or foreign license is accepted for 90 days. Seat belts are required by law, and it's illegal to drive while speaking on your cell phone.

What's the weather like?

The U.S. Virgin Islands enjoy warm sunny weather year-round. The average temperature is 86 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer (May-September). Temperatures during the winter season can range from 77-82 degrees (October-April). The Caribbean sun is intense. Drink plenty of water and don't forget the "reef safe" sunscreen!

Sunscreen?

The U.S. Virgin Islands passed a law stating that only "Reef Safe" sunscreens are allowed. To help preserve our beautiful beaches and coral gardens you MUST only use mineral based sunscreens. Take a look at the ingredients...if anything starts with the letter "O", it's a No, No here on the island.
